Saturday coffee break with Edvin Fiku - PTPI Tirana President
Let us to tell you a wonderful story coming from Tirana - Albania. Make sure you have your coffee beside you and we can start another Saturday journey. This time as our guest we have Edvin Fiku who is the president at PTPI Tirana Horizon Student Chapter. You will read more about Edvin and his role in leading his chapter and also about the upcoming events at PTPI Tirana Horizon Chapter. One of the greatest things that happened to Edvin is being part of PTPI so he says :
„PTPI has opened my mind. It has made me a better person and a more effective one.“
1.Tell us something about you briefly.
Hello! My name is Edvin Fiku. I’m 16 years old , I live in Tirana,Albania and I’m currently in the second year of High School. I usually spent my free time practising sports and hanging out with my friends. I’m always in search of new adventures so if you need an adventure buddy, then you know where to find me. Beside that I spent a lot of time listening to different music genres and volunteering. Music is my “virtual” friend while volunteering is a great way to share with others.
2. What chapter are you currently member in ? How do you like the atmosphere in your chapter?
I’m currently the president of “Tirana ‘Horizon’ Student Chapter”. Before this I was the homestay coordinator but I passed the torch to the new members. I like the atmosphere created because everyone is willing to say his opinion free and never be judged by what he/she says. I always try to use my position well and always be collaborative and willing to accept new ideas.
3.Can you tell us something more about the current projects you have in your chapter?
Well, we are planning to do many activities in the following months. We ended up last year by a project at a local orphanage and we hope his year will be very productive. We already have planned a project for “14 March” which is known in Albania as “The day of Spring” so we hope it will be special. We also have planned a big project for GYSD but I don’t want to reveal its secrets…;). We are also planning to repaint an area and clean it but due to bad weather we have to delay it.
4.What changes has PTPI brought in your life?
PTPI has opened my mind. It has made me a better person and a more effective one. I truly believe in the motto ”Sometimes individuals can be more effective than governments in promoting human relationships and peace”. I have made many interesting friends with whom I still have contacts. It’s always good to meet new & different persons with whom you can share something.
5.Have you been given the opportunity to travel via PTPI programs? How would you describe this experience ?
I had the opportunity to participate in “European Youth Exchange 2012” in Berlin, Germany. It was an unforgettable experience. I met people from 6 different countries, cultures and history but we all had something in common : Our PTPI spirit! When I came back home I felt motivated and took the initiative to be the president, so others can experience things I did.
6.What would you recommend to the youth that are still thinking whether to be part of a local PTPI Chapter or not?
Well, PTPI is a big family who welcomes all. For me it’s a life-changing experience . It’s never late to make a world a better and you being the main actor in this play. Don’t forget : By helping others you help yourself!
