Saturday coffee break with Tsvetiana Zaharieva - PTPI Varna President
Another Saturday adventure with the coffee break. This time as a guest in our section we have Tsvetiana Zaharieva who is the president of PTPI The Dolphins from Varna - Bulgaria. In her interview you will read more about her interests and hobbies, the biggest Christmas campaign in Bulgaria and the long lasting friendships she made while she was traveling with PTPI.After three years of being member of her chapter she says :
„ PTPI connecting people - I believe in that more than ever now!“
1.Tell us something about you briefly.
Hello! My name is Tsvetiana Zaharieva, but everyone calls me Tsveti. I live in Varna, Bulgaria, I’m 18 years old and I’m currently in my last year at the High School of Mathematics in my town. In my spare time I always have something to do and I never get bored. A big part in this hectic schedule plays PTPI, of course, and also the Varna youth opera with which we put on musicals monthly at the biggest stage in the region. Besides that I enjoy long walks in the park, drinking tea in a good company and doing sports. I love travelling and I feel the most comfortable when I’m surrounded by many people.
2. What chapter are you currently member in ? How do you like the atmosphere in your chapter?
I’m a Dolphin as we all call ourselves since our chapter is called ‘The Dolphins’. At the moment I am the President and before that I was the Secretary. I love our weekly meetings since my mood always gets better afterwards and I also get to see my PTPI friends. The atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly!
3.Can you tell us something more about the current projects you have in your chapter?
We recently opened the first renovated room with the money we raised at our fifth annual Christmas campaign and now we’re working on the other room. In February we’ll be connecting with our Sister chapters via Skype. One week ago we had a video conference with The Eagles from Oroslavje, Croatia and in another week we’ll be seeing the faces of creACTive chapter members on the computer screen. We’re also preparing a special flash mob for 14th February, a Dolphin Valentine’s party and also our joint project with our friends from Macedonia – a book day at the local school for the blind. Besides all of these projects our biggest event in the coming months would have to be the 2013 European Conference, which will be held in Varna this year! We’re very excited! To all of you, who are reading, you’re very welcome to join us on 30th May- 2nd June for an unforgettable event. More info here.
4.What changes has PTPI brought in your life?
For the 3 years I’ve been a member of ‘The Dolphins’ PTPI has made a significant impact on my life. I discovered a whole new world through volunteering and it opened my eyes for so many things. Not to mention that I found many people who share the same beliefs as mine, I got to practice my English more and I’ve also developed multiple international friendships. I’ve gotten to the place where I can’t imagine my life without PTPI and all the Dolphins in my life.
5.Have you been given the opportunity to travel via PTPI programs? How would you describe this experience ?
In Summer 2012 I got the chance to take part in the European Youth Forum in Berlin, Germany and I have to admit that it was an unforgettable experience. It was my first time participating in an international exchange and I always get excited while talking about it! I got to meet great people from 6 other countries, which was quite enriching. The best part was that we got along so well and to this date I still keep contact with some of the participants. During these 6 days I also learned a lot about leadership, team work and the importance of time management. I walked the streets of Berlin, swam in a lake, ate traditional German Wurst and I also have my name credited as one of the writers on the back of one very special manual. What’s not to love about this PTPI exchange? Oh, and it was my first time meeting members from our Sister chapter in Skopje, Macedonia – creACTive.
PTPI connecting people - I believe in that more than ever now!
6.What would you recommend to the youth that are still thinking whether to be part of a local PTPI Chapter or not?
The PTPI chapter is first and foremost a group of friends, volunteers who share the same ideas and are willing to put their whole energy into doing something to help out the community. The organization also provides lots of opportunities to meet up with people from all over the world and exchange experience with them. If you want to do something fun and yet to help your community and the people surrounding you, then PTPI is the place to be!
