Saturday coffee break with Cathy Sulaiman- PTPI Berlin President
It is time to drink our first Saturday coffees in Berlin- Germany. We have Cathy Sulaiman who is the president of one of the newest chapters formed in Europe. She is the initiator for opening a student chapter in Berlin after she attended the European Youth Forum 2012. PTPI Berlin Student Chapter is working 6 months and Cathy is describing the atmosphere in the chapter. We are welcoming kindly Cathy and other PTPI Berlin Student Chapter members and Cathy as part of our family says :
„Since PTPI is in my life I want to see more of the world, I have the feeling like my world is not small any more.“
1.Tell us something about you briefly.
My Name is Cathy Sulaiman and I am the president of the Big City Chapter in Berlin, Germany.
2. What chapter are you currently member in? How do you like the atmosphere in your chapter?
Our chapter exists only for 6 months but we already have a good atmosphere within the chapter. Everyone is reliable and the tasks are distributed equally. Sometimes it is hard to meet too often because of our time schedules. Everyone is being really busy what makes the project organization go slower.
3. Can you tell us something more about the current projects you have in your chapter?
The last project we implemented was the “Valentine’s Rose”-project in which we demanded everyone who wanted to surprise a person he likes, to hand in an envelope with one euro and the name of the person anonymously. It was quite a success. Almost 100 students took the opportunity.
About our upcoming project- this summer we are offering homestay. The homestay is planned for July and we hope that it will be great success.
4 .What changes has PTPI brought in your life?
I am more motivated to get to know different cultures. Since PTPI is in my life I want to see more of the world, I have the feeling like my world is not small any more.
5. Have you been given the opportunity to travel via PTPI programs? How would you describe this experience ?
I have visited the Bulgarian Chapter last summer in 2012. It was a huge experience for since I have never been to Bulgaria once. I liked the landscape and I felt quite like home since my mum herself is also from the Scandinavian area. The people were nice and I got more sure about the fact that no culture is really strange until you are in the country.
6.What would you recommend to the youth that are still thinking whether to be part of a local PTPI Chapter or not?
Take a shot. You won’t die by at least trying it. At first I did not really know that to do with PTPI either and now look at me: I have found out I have skills I never really realized before, I have found a chapter by myself and now I am happy that I did it.
You will never really know what it is like if you don’t try. Life is a chance, take it.
