Saturday coffee break with Bergi Xhango - PTPI Tirana Student Chapter
After the big preparations for GYSD , the Saturday coffee break is again here for all of you to catch a glimpse of all student chapters all over the world. Prepare your coffee because we are flying to Albania. Bergi Xhango from Tirana who is the Sister Chapter coordinator in her chapter is describing the atmosphere at PTPI Tirana Horizon Chapter and her five year experience with PTPI. You will read more about her adventures at the European Youth Forum in Berlin. About the journey with PTPI she says :
„If you want to actively take part in society, if you want to meet people from all over the world, if you are curious, aspiring, have dreams that you can’t wait to make true, if you like learning, creating, having good fun, then you should definitely join PTPI!“
1.Tell us something about you briefly.
I am Bergi Xhango, living in Tirana, Albania. I am in the last year of high school and also the Reporter/Historian and the Sister Chapter Coordinator of People to People’s Tirana Chapter. I like to cycle, walk around Tirana and explore new places, analyse things that happen using different methods, travel and explore the world.
2. What chapter are you currently member in? How do you like the atmosphere in your chapter?
I am a member of People to People Tirana (Horizon) Chapter since 2009. I couldn’t tell you about the atmosphere because you have to come and feel it for yourselves, but it’s so healthy! It was so since back when I first stepped on the Chapter’s office and it has grown maintaining a very welcoming, open and supportive environment.
3. Can you tell us something more about the current projects you have in your chapter?
The next project, which is about to finish off, is in coordination with our Sister Chapter, Sadat City Peacekeepers in Egypt. The main driving force behind it is our curiosity to get to know better not only the chapter as a whole, but also Sadat City. We could not arrange to visit the countries in such a short time, because as you know, Egypt and Tirana are a bit far away; therefore we chose another means to know each-other. The videos, which the chapters will put together, will be available on the internet for everyone to watch.
4. What changes has PTPI brought in your life?
What I value the most about the organisation is that it allows people to act upon the world and change what they don’t like in their community and beyond. The best part is that you don’t do it alone, because in that case you would, either ideologically or practically (or both), get a negative feedback. Besides the enabling power that it gives you, the projects themselves teach you unpredictably much. One of the most valuable lessons that I have learned: Become what you wish the world to be.
5. Have you been given the opportunity to travel via PTPI programs? How would you describe this experience?
Yes. I participated at the European Youth Exchange last year on July. It was an all around enriching experience. All the new information and interaction had such an impact on me that I was so inspired to implement all the things that I had learned. Very Good times, very interesting people, amazingly good organising in Berlin-the place to be.
6. What would you recommend to the youth that are still thinking whether to be part of a local PTPI Chapter or not?
I think people should try as many things as possible, and let participating in a chapter of People to People be one of those. If you want to actively take part in society, if you want to meet people from all over the world, if you are curious, aspiring, have dreams that you can’t wait to make true, if you like learning, creating, having good fun, then you should definitely join us!
